Film Independent: Future Filmmakers 2024 Mentorship Reception

I was invited by Film Independent to be a mentor at the Future Filmmakers Mentorship Reception last Saturday. And yes if you’re reading this… I did get off a plan and headed straight to the event to make it by 11:45a. Also, yes, I’m still pooped lol. 

The Future Filmmakers Mentorship Reception is the event where they honor the middle and high school students with films in the Future Filmmakers Showcase. All they asked of mentors, like myself, to spark conversation and offer inspiration for the student filmmakers. I watched all 13 films and was blown away by the talent. 

The screening was held at Inner-City Arts and we were fortunate to have two keynote speakers this year! Laurie J. Gardiner (Writer, Director, and Executive Associate at HOORAE Media) and Shari Page (Program Director for Half Initiative). They gave such amazing and inspiring stories that really empowered me before I left the event. I’m hoping if you’re a creative who’s trying to find inspiration and reading this right now… keep going. You are so close. Remember your why.
