About Kristina Thomas
BORN IN EAST OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA…
Kristina Thomas was born in Oakland, California and started filmmaking in college, mentored under Haile Gerima (Sankofa); learning the ins-and-outs of the filmmaking. It later helped her show her potential in the documentary side of filmmaking by winning awards that led her to win $50,000 to direct a pilot tv show in New Orleans, Louisiana for MTV/Endemol. She got her start working as a Script Coordinator when a mutual acquaintance got a staff gig and needed someone to replace them. Then when she went to the interview, the writer, whom she met at a book fair years before and expressed her interest in writing, hired her on the spot. Since then she's worked on BET's New Edition, Being Mary Jane, Greenleaf and HBO's upcoming show Lovecraft Country. For 2019, Kristina plans to direct her first feature in which her script, "WORTH IT" has landed her as a semi-finalist for Women in Film/The Blacklist feature competition and now BET's Project Cre8. Currently she’s in the Women in Film Mentoring Program for Directors 2018 - 2019.:
